The Hulherenko Family: From Occupied Tokmak to Safety

Highlighting the Stories of Children and Families of Project "Life in Freedom". The project supports Ukrainian children and families who have returned from Russian-occupied territories in their adaptation to life in Ukraine.

The Hulherenko Family: From Occupied Tokmak to Safety

The Hulherenko family — mother Anna and her two sons, Yuriy and Bohdan — have endured significant hardships. They lived in the city of Tokmak, which is currently under occupation. Fearing for her children’s lives and health, Anna managed to escape with them to Ukrainian-controlled territory.

Three-year-old Yuriy was born with a heart defect requiring constant medical supervision. Seven-year-old Bohdan faces vision problems, and Anna’s health has significantly deteriorated after the experiences she endured during the occupation.

The Maple Hope Foundation extended a helping hand to this family. We rented an apartment for them in Kyiv for six months, providing them with a safe place to recover and adapt. At Anna’s request, we also covered the cost of dental services and necessary medical tests for her and her children.

The story of the Hulherenko family is a reminder of the strength of family bonds and the importance of supporting those in greatest need. With your support, we can help families like theirs overcome challenges and begin new lives in safety.
